DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 07.19.2010 Dear Zakkypoo, on Friday I went to Camden and picked up the Souls from summer camp. They all seemed sad to be leaving their friends (not as sad as their friends that were doing more Warped dates!!!) and had lots of fun stories to tell. Seems that Pete Pedersen has really gotten quite a following for "Pedersen at Noon" photos and so many people wished they were staying on tour just to see what he's up to, haha. Here's a cute story for you: there's a band from England called "The Exposed" that came over to work in catering for the whole Warped Tour and they get to play when there are empty spots on stages. They became friendly with the Souls and being the big-hearted boys that they are... they had the band come up and play a song in the middle of their set each day. How great is that? Up the punx! Speaking of the UK, I'm really excited about Chunksaah's next project...the debut e.p. from England's "PACER", which is my old friend Dave House's new band. Isn't it funny that his name is Dave House? And, to make it funnier, I guess he and Dave Hause (from the Loved Ones and Souls family general lore) are always getting confused for each other (especially since both of them are dudes that play in bands but also do solo stuff...) so this will be really fun to confuse people with. I hung out with Dave Hause the other day and he said we should release his debut e.p. too so it just makes a total shitshow. Hmmmm.... anyways, The Pacer record will come out in September. It's another 10". If it was up to me, all of our records would be 10"s... i know, you know, but i just get so excited about it. Also speaking of upping the punks... I have some VERY EXCITING SHOWS coming up to tell you about!!!!!! The Bouncing Souls will be playing in NYC!!!!! Yay!!!! On a boat!!!!! Double yay!!!!! Rocks Off cruises will be hosting us on Monday September 13th and tickets to fans go on sale Tuesday July 20th at noon here at Chunksaah Online and through Rocksoff.com on Friday. DEAR K8 - 07.18.2010 Dear K8, it was great being back in the homeland. Glad that I got to see the newest members of the Chunksaah family, The Great Explainer, at the Court Tavern with you. Thanks for making the vegan ribs for me! Sorry I forgot to bring you the vegan jelly donuts. Have I finally failed you? Will I ever be able to redeem myself? Bummed that The Souls & Crew were on the West Coast Warped dates at the same time as I was back East. I've been keeping up with their events via Facebook. Good to see Pete Pedersen keeping it real out there. Sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. Aw. I lost my train of thought here. But... aw, hell. Pedersen…what else is there really to say about that. Some sad news, Paul Westerbird (our blue parakeet) died last week. Did I tell you that he was really a she? Sorta like that Replacements song "Androgynous". We were tipped off when she started laying eggs. Poor bird, forced into the gender roll we assigned for so long. Breaks my heart. We'll get another bird at some point. We already have a name picked out…Low Budgie…like the Low Budgets! And speaking of the Low Budgets, I got to see Chris Peelout in SF and NYC in the same month. He has a new band called Gone Wrong and they have a few songs on the World Wide Web. If you haven't checked them out yet, you should! They are very Eastern Pennsylvanian. I'm gong to try to write you here more. It's been a very one sided conversation. People might start to think you're a crazy lady writing to your imaginary friend on the Chunksaah Site but since I just saw you I guess I really don't have much exciting news. Spent the weekend helping paint the new location. It's red and green just like Chunksaah HQ! Official Chunksaah colors! I think you'll approve. DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 07.12.2010 Dear Zakkypoo, it sure was nice to visit with you for the Fourth O' July! It's been an eventful week over here. The boys are off on Warped Tour causing trouble in the Mid-West and Canada and SPAIN WON THE WORLD CUP!!!!!!! YES!!!!! The Souls are on WARPED TOUR until Friday in Camden where i'll go and pick them up and enjoy the day. I'm stoked for tomorrow, the street date of The Great Explainer's "The Way Things Swell", but i'm even more excited for the party on Wednesday!!!! It's Bastille Day, which i love to celebrate, and we're having crepes, champagne, and french fries. And Fireworks! Plus 4 great bands. All at the ASBURY LANES. I wish you were still in town to support the local scene, haha. And...SO EXCITING... We finally confirmed our tour to New Zealand and Australia with HOT WATER MUSIC. Let the bromance blossom! i can hardly wait til December (well... once the summer is over i'll hardly be able to wait). DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 06.12.2010 Time flies here at Little Eden.  Summer is here and the beach is awesome.  Good thing you're coming back east soon or I'd call you Fool (as Mark Twain said, 'the coldest winter i ever spent was summer in San Francisco' or something like that).  Sorry again that I'll be taking the boys to summer camp (WARPED TOUR) and I'll miss your show (go see Worthless City Rebels July 26 in Asbury Park) but I'll see you before you leave :) The Great Explainer's records are finally done.  I am really stoked about this record!!! DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 06.01.2010 Sure is turning summer here at the beautiful Jersey Shore!  Bryan had an awesome BBQ on Sunday, got to see a lot of family folks like Johnny X and Rob Santello and the whole shore crew.  Wish you could have been here...we miss you! Last friday i went to a boat cruise show around NYC for the UXO Tour (these are some of the same boys that we met all of those years ago and became the inspiration and voice of "Letters from Iraq" on The Gold Record....) to visit with TIM BARRY and support the veterans.  They put together the concert and allotted 100+ free tickets for active service men and women to come and enjoy the show. Apparently the Navy and Coast Guard caught wind of the "subversive activity" and made the boat a restricted area so that the soldiers and sailors in NYC who came to enjoy Fleet Week were NOT ALLOWED to choose to come to the show that was organized for them.  Sure, these Iraq and Afghanistan veterans may be against the war, but their objective is to provide much needed entertainment for active duty service people and to provide even more needed support (mental health and employment opportunities amongst other things) for those returning from the wars. And the Navy and the Coast Guard banned their personnel from coming and forced the UXO organizers to take down their banners.  AND! the NYPD flew helicopters dangerously close to the boat all afternoon long.  The organizers and the musicians were not deterred and the show went on...and a great show it was. Oh! Also on Friday I went to visit our dear friends, THE WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY, in the studio.  Good times!  I think they were more excited that I brought them some bottles of wine than to see me, but i guess i'm okay with that.  I hung around and got to see Raja tickle the ivories for a while. Cute Chunksaah family crossover, right?   Their new record is set to come out, when else, but Hallomas! We got the test pressings for THE GREAT EXPLAINER'S "The Way Things Swell" last week and they sound awesome!!!!! I'm really proud to be releasing these Jersey songs, and the songs were recorded by The Pete right here in Little Eden Studios and mastered down the street.  A record made in Asbury Park!  And, to celebrate we'll have a Record Release Party also right here at our very own Asbury Lanes on July 14th (Bastille Day!) with some other friends. Stay tuned for details! What else, what else. Got the garden planted, got my beach badge, the cats are fat, and I miss you.  Can't wait to see you 4th of July. DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 04.20.2010 Can you believe it? Just as the band was flying past Iceland last Thursday, the volcano there blew up big time and the wind changed, and all of the airports in Europe have been closed since. What's up with us and volcanoes? It was just a year ago that we got stuck in Alaska by Mt. Redoubt. Hmmmm. Anyways, we're having a great time over here across the pond. Played a couple of fun festivals with our friends in AFI and Story of the Year, and also had a really great dinner and a lot of beer with our new friends in Leipzig. It's crazy that we've been touring all these years and there's still so many new places to go. The new "Ghosts on the Boardwalk" Coffee Colored Vinyl is selling like hotcakes. Can't wait to meet up with the Strikes and PW next week...hopefully everyone can get over here!!!!! Settle down volcano ash...there's shows to play. Well, we'll be there in any case. DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 03.15.2010 Dear Zakkypoo, Did you hear that it's been CRAZY stormy here? There's rain inside my house (what else is new?) and Pete's shed blew across his back yard!!!! The ocean was like 100 feet closer to the boardwalk than it should be! So, i'm packing up the truck in the morning and heading west. Gonna stop by and visit some friends on the way and check out some shows at SXSW. Can't wait to see you at the Bamboozle Left. I think we should drink in the merch tent. DEAR ZAKKYPOO - 02.19.2010 Dear Zakkypoo, Hey, what's up?  How's things out there in SF? I liked your story about buying the new Cometbus issue from Aaron himself at the Anarchist Bookstore on the Haight.  Not too many of the old-school zinesters are keeping it that real.  Also, jealous you are going to see Greg & Shanti tonight at Gilman. Haven't seen them since Home For The Holidays. It's a long time for the Souls family to be on vacation!  BUT at least it's almost time for us to get together again at Bamboozle Left (March 27 at Angel Stadium CA), you should totally road trip down and make the scene with us! Things are pretty quiet in the office. Lots of boring paperwork stuff and so much filing (yes, i'm actually trying to eliminate my pile problem!).  Of course there's a couple exciting things in the works like the vinyl for Ghosts On The Boardwalk. Can't wait to see the cool embossed cover you are working on!  And our neat-o Record Store Day 2010 release. I saw a couple of really great shows. Murder City Devils last week and Mission Of Burma last night.  Good stuff.  Speaking of good shows, can't wait for next week and PUNK NITE!!!!!   Finally, i get to see FRANK TURNER with a full band (you know i drove to Florida to see him last year!!!!) and hang out with those bad boys in The Architects and not to mention our very own Dave Hause.  The Pete is dj-ing.  all of this spells TROUBLE.  Looks like i might be drinking too much and having too much fun again.
